About LZ

What is LZ?

By Patrice Perkins, August 13, 2010

The Short Version:

Are you an overworked professional or entrepreneur? Breathe deeply. Enjoy our tips to help you find balance and the scoop on unique destinations in Chicago.

The Long Version:

Dear Readers,

For four years, I balanced law school and extracurriculars, managed a full-time career and a social life. Spending time with close friends and family was important because it helped me recharge so that I could be more productive in other aspects of my life. That productivity gave me the freedom to just LIVE. Today, as a working attorney, I continue to approach my hectic life in the same way. One of my favorite quotes is, "Don't spend so much time making a living that you forget to LIVE." Those powerful words inspired me to document this lifelong journey and share it with you.

I started My Lifestyle ZEN in May of 2010 as a resource for overworked professionals and entrepreneurs in Chicago who value quality of life. I am not a doctor or a therapist; but a simple gal who is living this journey of finding balance and wants to share it with you. My Lifestyle ZEN introduces unique ways for readers to decompress and be more productive in their personal and professional lives. There is no one-size-fits-all approach to life, so some may work for you and some may not.

My Lifestyle ZEN adds a unique twist to the familiar concept of work-life balance, by providing ways for overworked professionals to "play hard" through the many distractions around Chicago. I strive to inform readers of diverse entertainment destinations- there is something for everyone! Born and raised in Chicago, it has always bothered me that this city remains so incredibly segregated. It is such a beautiful city, but we cannot truly experience it, in segments. I hope to break down the barriers of Old Chicago, blur the invisible lines and encourage people to just LIVE and enjoy this city together.

My Lifestyle ZEN also includes the following components:

city randomness

Informs readers of diverse entertainment alternatives in and around Chicago.

weekend fun

Offers themed itineraries of things to do for a weekend in Chicago.

zen travels

Provides information on destinations where readers can escape to maintain LZ.

lz q&a

Provides direct advice to work/life balance and lifestyle-related questions.

lz meet-ups

Offers networking opportunities and social outings for entrepreneurs, lifestyle-related service providers and other LZ readers.

lz suite

Offers a platform to provide visibility for small business owners who provide services or products relevant to readers.

Let's work smart, so that we can play hard. I hope that you enjoy this journey with me!

              Your LZ Girl,
